Shipping boats, whether a luxury motor launch or a smaller trailered sailing yacht, is all in a day's work for GT International Logistics. We can take care of every facet of your boat's shipping.

Boats can be loaded wharf-to-wharf, water-to-water, or a mixture of both. Let us know your specific boat shipping requirements and we will advise you on the most suitable transporation method.

What’s involved In shipping a boat?

There are big differences in complexity between shipping a 10m trailer-sailer and a 25m ocean cruiser. Boat transport is a specialised field, so it’s important you make use of our professional experience and get advise on best methods - and potential pitfalls.

GT International Logistics will take care of all the red tape such as customs, quarantine and port formalities, including arranging lifts in or out of the water at a port, pier or anywhere else.

While each boat shipping project is unique, there are common procedures in boat shipping:

  • When thinking about the dimensions of your boat, can anything be removed to make it smaller? Items such as bowsprits, keels, flybridges and radar arches be sometimes be removed. Often with just a few hours labour can result in much lower freight costs.
  • If your boat is not on a trailer it will need a cradle. We can organise adjustable steel cradles in a number of locations around the world, or if necessary we can organise construction of a custom cradle for your yacht.
  • It’s best to avoid water lifts at the port if possible as they are very expensive. If your boat can be made low enough for road transport, it’s better to lift it out at a nearby marina and then we can truck it to port depending on the boat's size.
  • A water discharge depends on a number of factors so please talk about this with us, as it’s not always possible. For example, if the ship arrives at night, quarantine will not give clearance because the light is not good enough for them to inspect the boat.

Still looking for your boat?

If you haven’t bought your boat, talk to us first so we can give you a ball park figure for transport costs and advise on any compliance issues you may face. Different countries have different rules and regulations about boat transport and importing/exporting yachts.
